Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesC+
FutureB
The Packers let Carter fall and pounced. Final grade: B. When a board-topper like Barrett Carter slides to No. 200, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Caldwell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the Round 1 slot they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A safety of that caliber at pick 64 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
They will replay Jalon Walker at slot 87 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick123
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in No. 123 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick129
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
They went early on Mello Dotson in Round 4, Pick 28, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in pick No. 160 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick200
Rnd6
Barrett Carter
They robbed the room for Barrett Carter here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jamaree Caldwell
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jamaree Caldwell in the 239th overall pick, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick251
Rnd7
Justin Walley
They reached into another round for Justin Walley, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
