Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesC-
FutureB-
Grand theft in the Round 7 slot: the Packers steal Allen and grade out a B-. The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: LeQuint Allen, the Round 7 slot, roughly 100 picks past where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Ivey pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Mike Green
In the 23rd pick they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jared Ivey
A big swing on Jared Ivey at Round 2, Pick 22, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in the 123rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick124
Rnd4
O'Donnell Fortune
A straight-up fair deal on O'Donnell Fortune at pick 124, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160
Rnd5
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. in pick No. 160 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick200
Rnd6
Cody Simon
Taking Cody Simon in slot 200 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick239
Rnd7
LeQuint Allen
A running back of that caliber at No. 239 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick251
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger at No. 251 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
