FutureF
The Batty reach set a tone the Packers could not shake: F. The Packers bet big and early on Tyler Batty, 102 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
On value alone, Gordon II makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In No. 24 they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick25
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick26
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jahdae Barron at the 26th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick56
Rnd2
Shavon Revel Jr.
They robbed the room for Shavon Revel Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick57
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They will replay Tate Ratledge at Round 2, Pick 25 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to the 58th pick, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick88
Rnd3
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick125
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in the 125th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at Round 4, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick135
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
They barely believed it either: Mason Taylor still on the board at No. 135. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick159
Rnd5
Zane Durant
A reach for Zane Durant in the 159th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick160
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They liked Dont'e Thornton Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 160. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick174
Rnd5
Cody Simon
Cody Simon at slot 174 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick199
Rnd6
Theo Wease Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Theo Wease Jr. at pick 199 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick201
Rnd6
Tyler Batty
A wild overpay on Tyler Batty in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick237
Rnd7
Jonah Monheim
Taking Jonah Monheim in the 237th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick250
Rnd7
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in pick 250 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
Somehow Jack Kiser was still sitting there in No. 252, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick253
Rnd7
Tim Smith
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tim Smith in the 253rd overall pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick254
Rnd7
Ollie Gordon II
Circle this one: Ollie Gordon II at slot 254 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
