Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B. The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Jasheen Davis, taking him 131 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They banked enough surplus on Judkins to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In No. 17 they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot.
Pick44
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at pick 44 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at the 49th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
A tidy bit of business in slot 76, where Jalen Royals graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick118
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 118th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts at Round 5, Pick 11 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick168
Rnd5
Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins at the 168th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick170
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
They paid up for JJ Pegues at the 170th pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jasheen Davis
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jasheen Davis in the Round 5 slot, miles early. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick187
Rnd6
Quinn Carroll
Value said wait; Quinn Carroll in No. 187 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick209
Rnd6
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at pick 209 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jake Briningstool
Taking Jake Briningstool in slot 247 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
