Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesC FutureB+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Bhayshul Tuten at Round 3, Pick 36 is 55 spots clear of where he belonged.

On value alone, Jackson makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Colston Loveland
In the Round 1 slot they get a seam-stretching tight end, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at the 43rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jordan Phillips
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Phillips in No. 75 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Bhayshul Tuten
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bhayshul Tuten well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Chase Lundt
A big swing on Chase Lundt at slot 113, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138 Rnd4 CJ West
They reached into another round for CJ West, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at the 147th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick151 Rnd5 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in the 151st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jonas Sanker
A safety of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick227 Rnd7 Ricky White III
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ricky White III in No. 227. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
Bilhal Kone at slot 249 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick252 Rnd7 Ja'Quinden Jackson
Somehow Ja'Quinden Jackson was still sitting there in pick No. 252, and they pounced on premier running back value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
