Draft Grade — Jets
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Jets lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Kurtis Rourke; the Jets did not wait, grabbing him 33 spots ahead at pick No. 110. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Bassa at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

The veteran additions, Mazi Smith chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In No. 7 they get a disruptor off the edge, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick14 Rnd1 Colston Loveland
In the 14th pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end, even if it was a touch early.
Pick42 Rnd2 Benjamin Morrison
No edge and no loss on Benjamin Morrison in Round 2, Pick 10; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick73 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110 Rnd4 Kurtis Rourke
Kurtis Rourke at the 110th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick145 Rnd5 James Burnip
A swing that ignored the value entirely, James Burnip well ahead of where he belonged. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jeffrey Bassa
The board fumbled Jeffrey Bassa all the way to No. 149, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick153 Rnd5 Emery Jones Jr.
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 15, where Emery Jones Jr. graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick162 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
The board had cheaper options than Jonah Monheim at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick186 Rnd6 Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II is a better player than pick 186 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick204 Rnd6 Kobe Hudson
They reached a country mile for Kobe Hudson at the 204th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick207 Rnd6 R.J. Mickens
A reach on R.J. Mickens in slot 207; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
