Jaybeast17 DRAFTING FOR THECommanders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
C+
ValueD-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The jury is out on the Commanders. For now, C+. The Commanders torched the value chart for Jared Ivey, taking him 50 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
The Blue value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
If Jared Ivey and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey at the 29th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick61
Rnd2
Darien Porter
A premium they did not need to pay, Darien Porter a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick128
Rnd4
Chase Lundt
They talked themselves into Chase Lundt at slot 128, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick205
Rnd6
Jaydon Blue
Circle this one: Jaydon Blue at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick245
Rnd7
Howard Cross III
The board had Howard Cross III higher than the 245th overall pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
