The Ravens cashed the board's mistake on Hairston: D+. The Ravens torched the value chart for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, taking him 144 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hairston. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
JT Tuimoloau
In No. 27 they get a double-digit-sack hope, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick59
Rnd2
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Value said wait; Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in the 59th pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91
Rnd3
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at pick 91 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jayden Higgins
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick136
Rnd4
Vernon Broughton
They reached a country mile for Vernon Broughton at Round 4, Pick 34, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick166
Rnd5
Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow in pick 166 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176
Rnd5
Ahmed Hassanein
Ahmed Hassanein in slot 176 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick183
Rnd6
Ryan Fitzgerald
Nice patience on Ryan Fitzgerald, who had no business lasting to No. 183. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jeremy Crawshaw
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jeremy Crawshaw in the 203rd pick, miles early. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick210
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at the 210th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick212
Rnd6
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick243
Rnd7
Chandler Martin
They left a pile of value on the table to take Chandler Martin this early at pick No. 243. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
