Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueA NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureD
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chiefs.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Jalen Rivers in No. 95. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Starks at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 31 they get a difference-maker at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in slot 43 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at pick No. 63 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick66 Rnd3 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in the 66th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick95 Rnd3 Jalen Rivers
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jalen Rivers well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick257 Rnd7 Akili Arnold
They will replay Akili Arnold at No. 257 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
