Jaybeast17 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
C+

NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers landed square in the muddy middle: C+. The Marcus Major pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 312 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
The Howard pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Josh Simmons
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jacobe Covington
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jacobe Covington in pick 43, miles early. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick75
Rnd3
Tyler Booker
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tyler Booker reach No. 75 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
Taking Jalon Walker in slot 100 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jake Smith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jake Smith. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138
Rnd4
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
They talked themselves into Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the 138th pick, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147
Rnd5
Phil Mafah
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Phil Mafah well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick160
Rnd5
Marcus Major
They left a pile of value on the table to take Marcus Major this early at pick 160. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick227
Rnd7
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at pick No. 227 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick249
Rnd7
Will Howard
The board fumbled Will Howard all the way to the 249th pick, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jonah Monheim
Steal is underselling it; Jonah Monheim at Round 7, Pick 36 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
