Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
D-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the D-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Tyler Loop, 155 picks early at pick 171.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
However the rest shakes out, Emmanwori at that price is a win they earned. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 4th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in slot 38 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
A reach on Jayden Higgins in pick 46; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
They paid sticker price for Carson Schwesinger in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick77
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
No drama and no debate, Mason Taylor went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 13. The roster fit checks out.
Pick96
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo slid further than he should have, and pick No. 96 is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jake Majors
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jake Majors well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Barryn Sorrell
They reached a country mile for Barryn Sorrell at the 144th pick, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171
Rnd5
Tyler Loop
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyler Loop this early at Round 5, Pick 33. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick220
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in No. 220 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick238
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
Jermari Harris at pick 238 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
