Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureC+
The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C. Somebody took the Commanders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Call it a C and check back in two years.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on linebacker with cornerback and quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Every board in the league had Norfleet lower, and that gap is the story.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
Value with a capital V on Arvell Reese in the 18th overall pick, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick24
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Sonny Styles adds a linebacker and leaves cornerback and quarterback untouched.
Pick49
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
The board had cheaper options than Akheem Mesidor at pick 49, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kamari Ramsey
Kamari Ramsey at slot 71 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick99
Rnd3
Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen at the 99th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They paid sticker price for DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 135, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick145
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. in Round 5, Pick 7 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick185
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
They jumped the gun on Trey Zuhn III, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick194
Rnd6
Nolan Rucci
They liked Nolan Rucci enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 194. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196
Rnd6
Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick223
Rnd7
Hykeem Williams
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hykeem Williams. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
