Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-

Grand theft in the 165th pick: the Browns steal Wilson and grade out a B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Browns were there to profit. Jared Wilson, the No. 109 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 165.

They are betting Briningstool proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In No. 2 they get a disruptor off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
This one needs a full-page explanation: TreVeyon Henderson in slot 33, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at the 67th pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick94 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They read the board right and Donovan Jackson was the payoff at pick No. 94. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick103 Rnd4 Will Howard
By-the-book stuff, Will Howard at Round 4, Pick 2 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick165 Rnd5 Jared Wilson
They robbed the room for Jared Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick181 Rnd6 Cody Simon
You do not let a linebacker like Cody Simon reach pick 181 and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick194 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Nothing to complain about; Jaylen Reed went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick202 Rnd6 Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool at slot 202 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick216 Rnd6 Hayden Conner
Good price on Hayden Conner in the 216th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick217 Rnd6 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at No. 217 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick257 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Steal is underselling it; Jack Kiser at pick 257 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
