The Dolphins cashed the board's mistake on Neal: B.

The board owed the Dolphins one, and it paid up: Devin Neal, the No. 82 name on the board, sitting there at slot 149 like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The cost of the Wedig reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Winston Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and edge rusher still on the board. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In pick 13 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in slot 48 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick98 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
The board fumbled Andrew Mukuba all the way to Round 3, Pick 34, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick114 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kevin Winston Jr. adds a safety and leaves quarterback and edge rusher untouched.
Pick133 Rnd4 Pat Bryant
They paid sticker price for Pat Bryant in No. 133, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick149 Rnd5 Devin Neal
They barely believed it either: Devin Neal still on the board at the 149th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick154 Rnd5 Addison West
A wild overpay on Addison West in pick No. 154, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 224th overall pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick231 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Nice patience on Jackson Hawes, who had no business lasting to the 231st overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick252 Rnd7 Trey Wedig
Trey Wedig in the 252nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
