Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Dolphins, and a B- to prove it.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Dolphins reached some 70 spots for Reuben Fatheree II, and value like that does not grow back. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

On value alone, Neal makes the weekend a net positive. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback and edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
They went early on Alfred Collins in slot 48, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick98 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
They will replay Andrew Mukuba at the 98th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick99 Rnd3 Malachi Moore
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback and edge rusher to take Malachi Moore, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick115 Rnd4 Jack Bech
Jack Bech in pick No. 115 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick149 Rnd5 Devin Neal
Steal is underselling it; Devin Neal at No. 149 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick156 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the 156th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224 Rnd7 Clay Webb
Clay Webb in No. 224 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick231 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes is a better player than Round 7, Pick 15 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick251 Rnd7 Reuben Fatheree II
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Reuben Fatheree II well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
