Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Dolphins: B-.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Dolphins shredded theirs for Hayden Conner. He came off 34 spots early, and the room will hear about it.

Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher and linebacker open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Getting McCord where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In slot 13 they get a load in the middle. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick48 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A straight-up fair deal on Alfred Collins at the 48th pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick98 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
They paid sticker price for Kevin Winston Jr. in Round 3, Pick 34, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick116 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 116th overall pick on Malachi Moore with edge rusher and linebacker unsolved.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kyle McCord
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kyle McCord in pick 135. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
A tidy little value on Pat Bryant in No. 150, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick155 Rnd5 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at pick No. 155 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They talked themselves into Jackson Hawes at Round 7, Pick 8, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick231 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
A real head-scratcher, Hayden Conner in the 231st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick253 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
Torricelli Simpkins III in slot 253 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
