The Steelers land in the muddy middle: C+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Marcus Mbow in the 21st overall pick.

Getting Allen where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Belton pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Marcus Mbow
In the 21st overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick83 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at No. 83 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Anthony Belton in Round 4, Pick 21 leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick156 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
They will replay LeQuint Allen at slot 156 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick185 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They liked KeAndre Lambert-Smith enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick229 Rnd7 Alijah Huzzie
The board had Alijah Huzzie higher than the 229th pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
