Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers let Loveland fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The needs board said one thing and the 49ers did another, using the Round 4 slot on Andres Borregales while interior defensive lineman and edge rusher waited.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Loveland value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will need Riley to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In slot 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Somehow Colston Loveland was still sitting there in the 43rd pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson slipping to pick 75 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd3 Tai Felton
Tai Felton at Round 3, Pick 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick113 Rnd4 Dylan Fairchild
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Dylan Fairchild for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138 Rnd4 Andres Borregales
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Andres Borregales adds a specialist and leaves interior defensive lineman and edge rusher untouched.
Pick147 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 147, where Hollin Pierce graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick160 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley in Round 5, Pick 22 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick227 Rnd7 Kitan Crawford
Kitan Crawford at slot 227 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick249 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at pick No. 249 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick252 Rnd7 Donovan Smith
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Smith. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
