Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-

A solid, sensible weekend for the Dolphins: B-.

The war room fell hard for Joe Huber, and it showed at No. 253: 80 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Dolphins indulged a want in Moore while a need in edge rusher and linebacker stayed open. On value alone, McCord makes the weekend a net positive.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In No. 13 they get an anchor for the defensive front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick48 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A conviction pick on Alfred Collins at pick No. 48 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick98 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Kevin Winston Jr. at pick 98 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick116 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
A surprising call. With edge rusher and linebacker still to address, they spent the 116th pick on Malachi Moore, a safety they were not short of.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kyle McCord
The board fumbled Kyle McCord all the way to Round 4, Pick 33, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick150 Rnd5 Raheim Sanders
They left a pile of value on the table to take Raheim Sanders this early at the 150th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick155 Rnd5 Chimere Dike
Chimere Dike at slot 155 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They reached a country mile for Jackson Hawes at the 224th pick, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Pick231 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in No. 231 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick253 Rnd7 Joe Huber
They talked themselves into Joe Huber at pick No. 253, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
