Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots won the night they stopped Washington II from sliding. Grade: B-.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Patriots never addressed interior defensive lineman, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.

They will need Alexander to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. On value alone, Washington II makes the weekend a net positive.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Malik Muhammad
They paid sticker price for Malik Muhammad in No. 12, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick44 Rnd2 Antonio Williams
A reasonable price with a little left over, Antonio Williams in slot 44. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick76 Rnd3 Caleb Tiernan
A premium they did not need to pay, Caleb Tiernan a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick112 Rnd4 Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia at pick No. 112 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick129 Rnd4 Kalil Alexander
A conviction pick on Kalil Alexander at pick 129 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick151 Rnd5 John Mateer
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing John Mateer in Round 5, Pick 13. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick190 Rnd6 Robert Spears-Jennings
Robert Spears-Jennings at pick 190 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick218 Rnd7 Elliot Washington II
Elliot Washington II at slot 218 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick225 Rnd7 Jack Velling
They read the board right and Jack Velling was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 9. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
