Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Chargers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Nobody else had Keaten Wade anywhere near the 236th pick. The Chargers did, by 65 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The Burks steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Dani Dennis-Sutton
In the 23rd pick they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55 Rnd2 Suntarine Perkins
They liked Suntarine Perkins enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 23. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87 Rnd3 Dontay Corleone
Good price on Dontay Corleone in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick123 Rnd4 Terrance Carter
Terrance Carter at No. 123 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick162 Rnd5 Deion Burks
Somehow Deion Burks was still sitting there in pick No. 162, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick201 Rnd6 Jamari Lyons
They reached into another round for Jamari Lyons, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236 Rnd7 Keaten Wade
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Keaten Wade well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick256 Rnd7 Ja'Keem Jackson
Ja'Keem Jackson is a better player than the 256th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
