Nobody had Damon Payne Jr. this high, and it is not close. The Broncos reached 86 spots to get him at pick No. 254. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

On value alone, Lee makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

In pick No. 19 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value.
Pick51 Rnd2 Joe Royer
No edge and no loss on Joe Royer in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick83 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domonique Orange. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick119 Rnd4 DJ Harvey
They paid sticker price for DJ Harvey in the 119th overall pick, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick158 Rnd5 Cayden Lee
Somehow Cayden Lee was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 20, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232 Rnd7 TJ Metcalf
Quietly one of the better values of the day, TJ Metcalf at No. 232. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick250 Rnd7 Ethan Onianwa
Ethan Onianwa at pick No. 250 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254 Rnd7 Damon Payne Jr.
They reached into another round for Damon Payne Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
