Draft Grade — Bears
Overall C
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the Bears this weekend: C.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent No. 155 on Bear Alexander, a name most had 54 spots down the list. Call it a C and check back in two years.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick45 Rnd2 Gennings Dunker
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Gennings Dunker graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77 Rnd3 Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves in pick 77 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick80 Rnd3 Logan Jones
They liked Logan Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in the 80th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick113 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
Fair-plus on Daylen Everette, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick126 Rnd4 Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at No. 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick155 Rnd5 Bear Alexander
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bear Alexander. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick194 Rnd6 Riley Mahlman
They reached a country mile for Riley Mahlman at slot 194, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Pick229 Rnd7 Avery Johnson
Circle this one: Avery Johnson at pick 229 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
