There is conviction, and then there is this. The Giants took Graham Mertz a full 145 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Evans. Everything downstream of Shedeur Sanders depends on Shedeur Sanders, and the building knows it. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
