Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
C-
ValueD+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Browns got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C-. The Browns treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 3 slot on Ja'Quinden Jackson a full 148 spots early.
Getting Mondon Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
If Will Campbell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In slot 2 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Pick33
Rnd2
Kevin Winston Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kevin Winston Jr.. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67
Rnd3
Dillon Gabriel
Dillon Gabriel in Round 3, Pick 3 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84
Rnd3
Ja'Quinden Jackson
Ja'Quinden Jackson at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick94
Rnd3
Tory Horton
A reach on Tory Horton in pick 94; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick191
Rnd6
DJ Uiagalelei
They talked themselves into DJ Uiagalelei at the 191st pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick200
Rnd6
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 200 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick216
Rnd6
Fadil Diggs
A real head-scratcher, Fadil Diggs in the 216th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick255
Rnd7
Chandler Martin
They reached into another round for Chandler Martin, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
