Draft Grade — Browns
Overall D+
ValueC NeedA- TradesF FutureD
A franchise passer in Sanders headlines a D+ weekend for the Browns.

There is reaching, and then there is Kai Kroeger at pick No. 200. The Browns jumped the board by 88 and dared it to prove them wrong. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The Baron pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In slot 5 they get a long-term answer under center, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond in the Round 2 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the 67th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick94 Rnd3 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in No. 94 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick104 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
They barely believed it either: Ozzy Trapilo still on the board at Round 4, Pick 2. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick179 Rnd6 Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty at pick 179 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick192 Rnd6 R.J. Mickens
This one needs a full-page explanation: R.J. Mickens in pick 192, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick200 Rnd6 Kai Kroeger
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kai Kroeger. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick216 Rnd6 Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron in the 216th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255 Rnd7 DJ Uiagalelei
They reached into another round for DJ Uiagalelei, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
