Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chiefs a B-.

The Chiefs looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Desmond Watson at Round 5, Pick 27 regardless, 63 picks early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. With quarterback and linebacker unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick52 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
A clean, defensible pick in the 52nd pick with a little surplus value in JT Tuimoloau. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick61 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
They paid up for Maxwell Hairston at Round 2, Pick 29 when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick63 Rnd2 Darien Porter
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Darien Porter while clear needs at quarterback and linebacker sat open.
Pick66 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kevin Winston Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick95 Rnd3 Savion Williams
Savion Williams at the 95th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109 Rnd4 Chimere Dike
Chimere Dike at slot 109 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick128 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in Round 4, Pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick133 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
No drama and no debate, Hollin Pierce went about where he belonged in pick No. 133. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick165 Rnd5 Desmond Watson
A big swing on Desmond Watson at No. 165, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Pick168 Rnd5 Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
