Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Chiefs kept it disciplined and banked a B.

The needs board said one thing and the Chiefs did another, using the Round 3 slot on Darien Porter while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots waited.

Williams falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will need Smith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick56 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at the 56th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick63 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at Round 2, Pick 31 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick66 Rnd3 Darien Porter
A curious use of the Round 3 slot. Quarterback, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Darien Porter did not.
Pick82 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
They paid sticker price for Ozzy Trapilo in the 82nd overall pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick92 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in pick 92 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick95 Rnd3 Savion Williams
Fair-plus on Savion Williams, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick111 Rnd4 Chimere Dike
Good price on Chimere Dike in pick No. 111, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick114 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brashard Smith. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick226 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
No drama and no debate, Desmond Watson went about where he belonged in slot 226. The roster fit checks out.
Pick251 Rnd7 Thomas Fidone II
A straight-up fair deal on Thomas Fidone II at Round 7, Pick 35, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
