Draft Grade — Browns
Overall D+
ValueF NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Back to the drawing board for the Browns: D+.

The Browns did not so much draft Seth McGowan as overpay for him, 378 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.

Dart falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 RJ Oben
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Seth McGowan
Seth McGowan at slot 33 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick67 Rnd3 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku slipping to Round 3, Pick 3 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at No. 94 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick104 Rnd4 Stone Handy
They reached a country mile for Stone Handy at the 104th pick, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick179 Rnd6 KJ Jefferson
A real head-scratcher, KJ Jefferson in pick No. 179 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick192 Rnd6 Marcus Mbow
Taking Marcus Mbow in pick 192 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jordan James
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jordan James in the 216th overall pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick225 Rnd7 Beaux Collins
Beaux Collins at Round 7, Pick 9 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jaxson Dart
They will replay Jaxson Dart at slot 255 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
