Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall F
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureF
Skattebo should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a F.

The Chiefs lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

They will need Turner to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Skattebo pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get a blindside protector at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick16 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In the 16th pick they get a seam-stretching tight end. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick32 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick 32 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Cameron Williams
No edge and no loss on Cameron Williams in pick No. 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick56 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
Fair-plus on JT Tuimoloau, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick66 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
A clean, defensible pick in No. 66 with a little surplus value in Jalen Royals. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick95 Rnd3 Shemar Turner
A wild overpay on Shemar Turner in the 95th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick132 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick256 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
A reach for Shilo Sanders in the 256th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
