Overall B-

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chargers a B-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chargers started one anyway for Kaden Prather, 77 picks ahead of schedule. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

That Monheim pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55 Rnd2 Elic Ayomanor
They went early on Elic Ayomanor in No. 55, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick86 Rnd3 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor slid further than he should have, and the 86th pick is lovely value for the tight end. The roster fit checks out.
Pick125 Rnd4 Ashton Gillotte
Taking Ashton Gillotte in pick 125 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick158 Rnd5 Donovan Edwards
They reached a country mile for Donovan Edwards at Round 5, Pick 20, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick181 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
They took JJ Pegues at par in slot 181, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick199 Rnd6 Kaden Prather
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kaden Prather in the 199th overall pick, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jonah Monheim in pick No. 209, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the 214th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
