Draft Grade — Bears

Grand theft in pick No. 256: the Bears steal Sanders and grade out a F. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent the Round 2 slot on Rylie Mills, a name most had 73 spots down the list.
However the rest shakes out, Sanders at that price is a win they earned. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
They will answer for taking safety early while cornerback and quarterback went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the 9th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the Round 1 slot they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in pick No. 37, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Warren at slot 40, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at the 46th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick61
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Value with a capital V on Xavier Watts in No. 61, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick62
Rnd2
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at slot 62 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
A big swing on Cam Skattebo at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Andrew Mukuba adds a safety and leaves cornerback and quarterback untouched.
Pick102
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson in pick 102 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at Round 4, Pick 36 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick256
Rnd7
Raheim Sanders
They will replay Raheim Sanders at pick No. 256 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
