Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
D+
ValueF
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Not the weekend the Ravens were hoping for: D+. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Ravens took Evan Prater a full 333 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Trapilo at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on specialist with cornerback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Amari Kight
In the 27th pick they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
A slide stopped in slot 59, with Kaleb Johnson worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater in Round 3, Pick 27 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick129
Rnd4
Luke Elzinga
A curious use of pick No. 129. Cornerback, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a specialist in Luke Elzinga did not.
Pick136
Rnd4
Evan Prater
A real head-scratcher, Evan Prater in pick 136 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick176
Rnd5
Sevion Morrison
Sevion Morrison at No. 176 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183
Rnd6
Jackson Hawes
A big swing on Jackson Hawes at slot 183, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick203
Rnd6
Ozzy Trapilo
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 203 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick210
Rnd6
Khris Bogle
They talked themselves into Khris Bogle at pick 210, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick212
Rnd6
Kai Kroeger
Value said wait; Kai Kroeger in Round 6, Pick 36 says they were not listening. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick243
Rnd7
Brian Ugwu
They reached a country mile for Brian Ugwu at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
