Jaybeast17 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
D+

TradesA+
FutureD-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Patriots a D+. The rest of the league had time to spare on Giles Jackson; the Patriots did not wait, grabbing him 278 spots ahead at slot 77.
The Ersery pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The Patriots indulged a want in Hunter while a need in interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots stayed open. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Elijah Roberts
In the 4th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick8
Rnd1
Quincy Riley
In No. 8 they get a lockdown presence outside, a steep price for the projection.
Pick38
Rnd2
Travis Hunter
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots to take Travis Hunter, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick77
Rnd3
Giles Jackson
They reached into another round for Giles Jackson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick144
Rnd5
Aireontae Ersery
They barely believed it either: Aireontae Ersery still on the board at pick No. 144. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171
Rnd5
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at pick 171 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick220
Rnd7
Shemar James
Shemar James at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick238
Rnd7
Moose Muhammad III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Moose Muhammad III this early at the 238th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
