Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
C-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureC+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Commanders to a C-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Commanders started one anyway for John Campbell Jr., 191 picks ahead of schedule.
Getting Neal where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
If Will Johnson and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
JT Tuimoloau
In the 29th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick30
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In pick 30 they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick205
Rnd6
John Campbell Jr.
John Campbell Jr. at Round 6, Pick 29 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245
Rnd7
Devin Neal
They barely believed it either: Devin Neal still on the board at slot 245. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
