Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall A-
ValueA- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Cowboys robbed the room for Sampson. Final grade: A-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Dylan Sampson at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

Reaching for Griffith left real value on the table behind him. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Malaki Starks and all.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Malaki Starks
In pick 25 they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
A linebacker of that caliber at the 44th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris in slot 76 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick116 Rnd4 Tate Ratledge
They will replay Tate Ratledge at Round 4, Pick 15 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick150 Rnd5 Dylan Sampson
They robbed the room for Dylan Sampson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick170 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Cam Skattebo in No. 170, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick172 Rnd5 Jeffrey Bassa
Somehow Jeffrey Bassa was still sitting there in pick No. 172, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick174 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
The board fumbled Oronde Gadsden II all the way to the 174th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick190 Rnd6 Jonah Monheim
Steal is underselling it; Jonah Monheim at the 190th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick211 Rnd6 Thor Griffith
Value said wait; Thor Griffith in Round 6, Pick 36 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jamaree Caldwell
A real head-scratcher, Jamaree Caldwell in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
