The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chargers watched Brashard Smith slide 108 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They will need Sheppard to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
