The board owed the Bills one, and it paid up: Anthony Belton, the No. 115 name on the board, sitting there at the 170th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They will need Kroeger to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Bills indulged a want in Hairston while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
