Draft Grade — Panthers

Grant should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a B-. The Panthers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Charles Grant fell into pick No. 114.
Every board in the league had Green lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Mike Green
Mike Green at the 8th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick57
Rnd2
Jaylin Noel
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylin Noel at Round 2, Pick 25, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at slot 74 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick111
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
No edge and no loss on Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 111; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick114
Rnd4
Charles Grant
Charles Grant in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
They took Malachi Moore at par in pick No. 140, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick146
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in No. 146 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
They liked Ollie Gordon II enough to skip the value, taking him in the 163rd overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick230
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 14: Alijah Huzzie for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
