Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Saints: B. There is a lot to like until you notice cornerback is still a hole. The Saints never got to the one that mattered most. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
If McCord pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick No. 9 they get a bell-cow for the offense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in No. 40 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at slot 71 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick93
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
They took Ashton Gillotte at par in Round 3, Pick 29, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick111
Rnd4
Kyle McCord
Kyle McCord at the 111th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick130
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the 130th overall pick with a little surplus value in Emery Jones Jr.. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
