Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
C-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Saints to a C-. The Nohl Williams pick is the one that will follow the Saints into the fall. They took him 128 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. However the rest shakes out, Taylor at that price is a win they earned.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
If Ashton Jeanty and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
Nothing to complain about; Ashton Jeanty went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at pick No. 39 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick40
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Donovan Ezeiruaku well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick80
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker is a better player than slot 80 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick81
Rnd3
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They left a pile of value on the table to take Antwaun Powell-Ryland this early at the 81st overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick93
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick111
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
They barely believed it either: Mason Taylor still on the board at No. 111. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick114
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
They let Cam Skattebo come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick115
Rnd4
Cody Simon
A wild overpay on Cody Simon in Round 4, Pick 14, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick130
Rnd4
Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson at the 130th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick132
Rnd4
Nohl Williams
Nohl Williams at pick 132 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick186
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at slot 186 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick254
Rnd7
Maxen Hook
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Maxen Hook at the 254th overall pick is the proof. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
