zgriz2008 DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Texans never addressed wide receiver, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Sampson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Grey Zabel
In the 25th pick they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
A tidy little value on Alfred Collins in slot 58, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick79
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson is a better player than pick 79 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at pick No. 89 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
