Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueA NeedB+ TradesC FutureB
The Bears let Milroe fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

When a board-topper like Jalen Milroe slides to Round 7, Pick 24, you do not overthink it, and the Bears did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at slot 39 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41 Rnd2 Kelvin Banks Jr.
The board fumbled Kelvin Banks Jr. all the way to pick 41, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72 Rnd3 Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick81 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
A tidy little value on Elijah Arroyo in No. 81, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick149 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
Taking Cam Skattebo in the 149th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick197 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Somehow Dont'e Thornton Jr. was still sitting there in pick No. 197, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick235 Rnd7 Charles Grant
You do not let an offensive lineman like Charles Grant reach the 235th overall pick and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick242 Rnd7 Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at slot 242 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
