Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesD FutureA
The Bears did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Shaun Dolac in slot 240, a good 69 spots before the room expected him.

On value alone, Skattebo makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
In pick 24 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A tidy little value on Omarion Hampton in No. 39, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
They will replay Tyler Warren at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick72 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at pick No. 72 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick97 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba is a better player than slot 97 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick139 Rnd5 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the 139th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick148 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 10 with a little surplus value in Pat Bryant. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick233 Rnd7 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams in slot 233 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick240 Rnd7 Shaun Dolac
Shaun Dolac at No. 240 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
