Draft Grade — Packers

FutureB
The Packers won the night they stopped Nwankpa from sliding. Grade: B+. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Xavier Nwankpa, the No. 39 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 3 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Cypress II reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
JT Tuimoloau
In the 30th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
They robbed the room for Walter Nolen here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick87
Rnd3
Trevor Etienne
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trevor Etienne at pick 87. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88
Rnd3
J. Michael Sturdivant
They paid up for J. Michael Sturdivant at pick No. 88 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Dasan McCullough
They took Dasan McCullough at par in No. 91, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick95
Rnd3
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart at Round 4, Pick 23 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick123
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
Circle this one: Sonny Styles at slot 123 is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick126
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Nicholas Singleton in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
No drama and no debate, Jonah Monheim went about where he belonged in No. 151. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick158
Rnd5
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at slot 158 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick183
Rnd6
Tyler Baron
No edge and no loss on Tyler Baron in the 183rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick215
Rnd7
Fentrell Cypress II
Fentrell Cypress II in pick 215 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick222
Rnd7
CJ Dippre
They went early on CJ Dippre in Round 7, Pick 30, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
