FutureD
A weekend the Packers spent ahead of the board, for worse: F. The Packers spent real capital to be 101 picks early on Baylor Cupp, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. However the rest shakes out, Simpson at that price is a win they earned. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 25th pick they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot.
Pick27
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the 27th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick No. 28 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
Junior Colson
By-the-book stuff, Junior Colson at No. 41 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jaden Hicks
They took Jaden Hicks at par in Round 2, Pick 26, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick88
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They let Jeremiah Trotter Jr. come to them and pounced at pick 88. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick105
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
A reach for Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 5; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick110
Rnd4
DeWayne Carter
DeWayne Carter at the 110th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick114
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A straight-up fair deal on Mohamed Kamara at pick 114, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick116
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
No edge and no loss on Brenden Rice in slot 116; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick126
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
They talked themselves into Beaux Limmer at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick169
Rnd5
Tip Reiman
Tip Reiman in the 169th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick181
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
A big swing on Joe Milton III at pick No. 181, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jaylin Simpson
You do not let a cornerback like Jaylin Simpson reach No. 200 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick202
Rnd6
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 202 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick219
Rnd6
Trey Taylor
Trey Taylor in the 219th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick225
Rnd7
Jaylan Ford
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 5, with Jaylan Ford worth more than the price. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick245
Rnd7
Donovan Jennings
Donovan Jennings at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253
Rnd7
Frank Crum
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Frank Crum. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jarrett Kingston
A wild overpay on Jarrett Kingston in pick No. 255, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick256
Rnd7
Jaylon Carlies
A conviction pick on Jaylon Carlies at pick 256 that the board grades a round light. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick257
Rnd7
Baylor Cupp
They reached into another round for Baylor Cupp, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
