Draft Grade — Packers

The Packers landed square in the muddy middle: C+. The Packers torched the value chart for Kyle Hergel, taking him 91 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
That Johnson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. With edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
So much rides on Nate Wiggins that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In the 25th pick they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jonathon Brooks
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jonathon Brooks. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in pick No. 58 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Renardo Green
A tidy bit of business in slot 88, where Renardo Green graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick97
Rnd3
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 97th overall pick on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson with edge rusher unsolved.
Pick105
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in pick 105 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick110
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Audric Estime at pick No. 110. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick115
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A premium they did not need to pay, Ben Sinnott a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146
Rnd5
Hunter Nourzad
Hunter Nourzad at the 146th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick169
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick181
Rnd6
Joe Milton III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at Round 6, Pick 6. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick182
Rnd6
Trente Jones
A conviction pick on Trente Jones at pick 182 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick202
Rnd6
Ty'Ron Hopper
You do not let a linebacker like Ty'Ron Hopper reach No. 202 and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in the 203rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick207
Rnd6
Fabien Lovett
Somehow Fabien Lovett was still sitting there in slot 207, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 219th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick225
Rnd7
Trevin Wallace
They jumped the gun on Trevin Wallace, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick245
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
Trey Taylor at the 245th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick253
Rnd7
Kyle Hergel
Kyle Hergel at No. 253 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick255
Rnd7
Frank Crum
A big swing on Frank Crum at Round 7, Pick 35, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
