Draft Grade — Packers
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Packers bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Sam Hartman in the 219th pick. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Simpson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Jer'Zhan Newton
Jer'Zhan Newton slid further than he should have, and pick No. 25 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick41 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
Amarius Mims slipping to slot 41 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick42 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Guyton in the 42nd overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick58 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
A tidy little value on Xavier Worthy in the 58th pick, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick59 Rnd2 Renardo Green
They paid a round early for Renardo Green in Round 2, Pick 27, more than the board wanted. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick88 Rnd3 Brandon Dorlus
Brandon Dorlus at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick91 Rnd3 Jaden Hicks
They did well to land Jaden Hicks in the 91st pick, just ahead of his grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick123 Rnd4 Ray Davis
Nice patience on Ray Davis, who had no business lasting to pick No. 123. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick126 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at No. 169 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick188 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick 188 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick202 Rnd6 Trente Jones
Trente Jones at the 202nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick219 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at Round 6, Pick 44 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick245 Rnd7 Jordan Magee
Circle this one: Jordan Magee at slot 245 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick247 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
They let Trevin Wallace come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick255 Rnd7 Trey Taylor
A reach on Trey Taylor in slot 255; the board had better options right there. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
