FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Packers. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Kyle Hergel at the Round 7 slot is 90 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The Taylor-Demerson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Taylor-Demerson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and interior defensive lineman. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In pick No. 25 they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A premium they did not need to pay, Edgerrin Cooper a notch or two before his time. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick63
Rnd2
Sedrick Van Pran
They jumped the gun on Sedrick Van Pran, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick88
Rnd3
T.J. Tampa
Taking T.J. Tampa in No. 88 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick124
Rnd4
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
A surprising call. With edge rusher and interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent pick 124 on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, a safety they were not short of.
Pick126
Rnd4
Christian Jones
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in the 126th overall pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick169
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
They reached a country mile for Joe Milton III at No. 169, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick202
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
They paid up for Caedan Wallace at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson at the 219th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick245
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at Round 7, Pick 25 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick255
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal at pick 255 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick257
Rnd7
Kyle Hergel
Kyle Hergel at pick No. 257 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
