Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureB-
A franchise passer in Maye headlines a D- weekend for the Bears. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Everything downstream of Drake Maye depends on Drake Maye, and the building knows it. The Rosengarten pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Getting Bortolini where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In pick No. 9 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick16
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
No drama and no debate, Byron Murphy II went about where he belonged in slot 16. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick24
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 24 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They reached into another round for T'Vondre Sweat, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick70
Rnd3
Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick127
Rnd4
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in pick 127 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick130
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at the 130th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at pick 135 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick148
Rnd5
Tip Reiman
They jumped the gun on Tip Reiman, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick165
Rnd5
Tanor Bortolini
Nice patience on Tanor Bortolini, who had no business lasting to No. 165. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick250
Rnd7
Jaylon Carlies
Jaylon Carlies at Round 7, Pick 30 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
